History:In the early 1980s, Dennis Manderson had a dream to provide facilities for disabled anglers. He himself loved fishing and being disabled himself found it very difficult to find anywhere suitable to fish. In 1986 it became possible for the lakes at Over in Cambridgeshire to be bought. In 1990, The Manderson Trust for the Disabled was registered as a charity, and so work began to make the dream come true.
The Trust is run and maintained entirely by a small group of unpaid volunteers. With the help of these volunteers, through fishing matches, donations, scrounging goods and services, we raise money to maintain and improve the facilities.
Two lakes have been combined to make one large lake and another lake has been cleared of weed. Pathways have been grassed, trees and bushes are thriving and extensive planting has been done. A building called 'The Centre' has been constructed which provides a telephone, toilet facilities and a rest room where hot and cold drinks, in fact a complete meal can be prepared.
In 1994 Dennis Manderson died, but a memorial garden has been created at the Lakes in his memory, and his dream will continue.
The Manderson Trust is dedicated to provide free fishing facilities, with easy access, for disabled people and fishing at reasonable rates for non-disabled.
Disabled people can become full members. An annual fee of £10.00 would entitle full members to Newsletters and information of what’s going on at the Trust.
