Ongoing Projects
Well here we are well in the throws of making lake 5 a better lake and to do so we first had to drain the lake,
and as you can see the lake bed has risen quite a lot, so a digger was required
to dig out all that build up of silt, but before the digger was aloud to
move in the fish had to be removed safely and relocated in our other lakes.
With the environment agency on hand to help the fish were netted and moved ( roughly 400 carp and 10,000 other fish.) with the odd larger fish having to be rounded up with a landing net
good job Geoff had his waders with him. Once all the fish were moved all but the
elusive catfish that is which was never found in the nets, of
which the environment agency advised us that it may have already buried it self
in the deep silt which means we never see it. Any how after the fish were moved
the digger moved in to clear the lake bed of all the silt and weed,
this took about 2 to 3 days to clear and when finished the lake now has at least
1.4 metres or more of depth all over.
Of coarse the next job once the water has settled is to get the environment agency back in to re catch the fish in our other lakes and restock lake 5, this will be done over two days the first being Tuesday 13th of November and the second on the Thursday 15th of November. After which lake five will remain closed for further 2 to 3 weeks to allow the fish time to acclimatize and should all going well open on the17th of December. Unfortunately there will be no Lilly's to fish to as these were removed, but we will replace these with some ornamental Lilly's in march of next year, don't worry we have been advised to put these in as they do not spread like wild Lilly's and are not as strong either. We are looking at putting possibly half a dozen Lilly beds in, so next year it should be a great lake to fish.
Netting and restocking of lake five
The netting of our other lakes and restocking of lake five took place on November 13th and 15th. firstly on the 13th lakes 4 and 3 were netted with all carp over 4lb being put in lake 5 and several thousand silver fish. lake four was netted in order to catch the fish that were put in from five,

During the netting we caught baby carp which
shows the fish have been breeding, so the lakes look to be in good health.we
also caught two really pretty orange koi which were also put in five, so good
luck next year trying to catch these.

After four we moved over to lake three and netted with some surprise quite a lot of pike as well as carp and tench. the pike being moved to our predator lake no2 and the carp and tench to lake five

And secondly on the fifteenth lakes 1 and 2 were electro stunned, which proved to be quite difficult as the water was not very clear and the fish were deep but we were able to get some of the big fish out and put in to five.

The trust has taken delivery of over 11.000 fish from the High Flyer fishery with the help of Mr. Ken Gammon and the environment Agency and Mr. willy Williams who is a member of the Manderson trust Thanks to all for the kind Donation and help.
The trust is now taking on another project this will be called the families rest and picnic area. The trust discussed this and found that their was a need for the families of anglers visiting the trust to have a secure area that they could have a picnic in and a play area for younger family members this area will be located left of the entrance to the trust and will be fenced off with an access gate so to make it secure it will also be child friendly. Any one with any ideas please call one of the members who can pass on this information.
The trust has yet again been successful in an application to the local Network Fund so that we can get started on the families area project as soon as possible this work will take place when the work repairing the swims on lake 5 has been completed. The award was for £3449.38 will go towards setting up the families area that is going to be fenced in with picnic benches and sand pits for our young visitors there may also be swings and slide as well this will depend on the costs of the whole project again it will need volunteers so anyone who wants to help please tell a trustee thanks.
